The 8 Coolest Fictional Bars from TV and Movies

Bars are common settings in our TV shows and movies. Done right, they make us feel like we’re invited to pop around for a drink or two. Here’s our top picks for the bars that we always wanted to dive through the screen and join.

1. Cheers

You cannot start a list like this without Cheers being on the list. That would be wrong. True that you can now enjoy a drink at a real Cheers, that place didn’t exist when the show first aired. While the show depicted a bar that’s nothing like bars we’ve ever seen in real life complete with bartenders that don’t seem to really be doing anything, the idea of a place where you always feel welcome and everyone knows your name is very cozy and very comforting.

2. Moe’s Tavern

The Simpsons’ famed watering hole now also has a real live version you can visit right in Universal Studios Orlando. You can actually get a Duff beer AND a Flaming Moe. Now THAT’S living the dream!

3. The Hip Joint

Like The Simpsons, we can’t resist Futurama’s take on a dating bar. The futuristic drinks like the martini cloud that rains into the glass are pretty cool too.

4. Coyote Ugly

Here’s another bar that, thanks to the popularity of the movie, turned into a real place to grab a drink. Now there are 20 locations around the world teeming with beautiful bartenders. Huzzah!

5. Mos Eisley Cantina Bar

All the Star Wars fans out there feel what we’re saying with this one. This was one of those kinds of bars that when you saw it, you turned right to your parents and said, “I want to go there when I grow up.” You probably still remember the look of alarm on your Mom’s face, don’t you?

6. Bob’s Country Bunker

Let’s go back. WAY back into the 1970s when the original Blues Brothers, played by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, was on the big screen. They tricked their way into a gig at this gritty country and western bar and learned to fake it until they made it. For years, I thought all bars were supposed to have chicken wire on the stage.

7. Rick’s Café American

From the classic Casablanca, this cool bar from a bygone era has to be one of the hippest places to ever have a drink. Play it again, Sam!

8. The Ink and Paint Club

What’s cooler than a place where you as a flesh and blood human being can drink amongst cartoons? Oh, just being served by penguin waiters. No big deal. This speakeasy from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? has to be one of the coolest fictional bars ever dreamed up.
